{"id":2705,"date":"2014-05-05T14:09:56","date_gmt":"2014-05-05T12:09:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pindosnationalpark.gr\/?page_id=2705"},"modified":"2014-05-05T14:09:56","modified_gmt":"2014-05-05T12:09:56","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pindosnationalpark.gr\/en\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000066; font-size: small;\"><b>Traces of human presence from prehistory to Byzantium<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><strong>Prehistory: upper Paleolithic age (20,000 \u2013 8,000 BC)<\/strong><br \/>\nStone tools, bone tools and parts of bones from hunted animals at a cave at Klidi location near Voidomatis canyon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prehistory: Neolithic age (8,000 \u2013 3,000 BC)<\/strong><br \/>\nSigns of human presence at Gouda Alatopetra cave.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Copper age (3,000 \u2013 1,000 BC)<\/strong><br \/>\nTombs at the southwest edge of the Park (Kato Pedina, Elafotopos).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iron age (11th \u2013 9th century BC)<\/strong><br \/>\nFindings at western Pindos (Konitsa), tombs with rich gems at eastern Pindos (Spileo Grevena).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Geometric, archaic and classic age (9th \u2013 4th century BC)<br \/>\n<\/strong> Settlements at Vitsa Zagori (at the edges of Vikos canyon between Vitsa and Monodendri) and at Liatovouni Konitsa (to the point were Aoos river unites with Voidomatis river) which present a lot of information for the nomad life of the residents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hellenic age (330 \u2013 167 BC)<br \/>\n<\/strong> Ruins of five fortifications discovered at the villages of Greveniti, Makrino, Skamneli and Kastraki rise. At Spileo village was discovered an ancient citadel, combustion cemetery and necropolis, at Perivoli village were discovered tombs of classic and Hellenic ages, at Profitis Ilias rise at Prosvoro village were discovered ruins of a Hellenic age castle and at Polineri was discovered a Hellenic age fortification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Roman age (167 BC \u2013 250 AD)<\/strong><br \/>\nRuins od settlements and fortification at Macedonian Pindos, mosaic floor of a Roman cottage at Ziakas villafe, ruins of an ancient temple at Mavranei, tombs at Perivoli village and ruins of a castle at Filippei.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First Byzantine (4th \u2013 6th century AD) and Middle Byzantine (6th century \u2013 1204 AD)<br \/>\n<\/strong>Castle from Emperor Ioustinianos age at the entrance of Aoos canyon, support of fortification at Spilaio and Polineri Grevena.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Late Byzantine Age (1204 \u2013 1479)<\/strong><br \/>\nFortification support at Kastraki Agios Minas (Eastern Pindos)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Traces of human presence from prehistory to Byzantium Prehistory: upper Paleolithic age (20,000 \u2013 8,000 BC) Stone tools, bone tools and parts of bones from hunted animals at a cave at Klidi location near Voidomatis canyon.
