Tenths of high significance natural habitats have been recorded and already included at European Council Directive \u201cOn the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora\u201d.<\/h4>\n<p><b>NATURAL HABITATS<\/b><\/p>\n<p>There are 30 types of natural habitats at the <strong>National Park of Northern Pindos.<\/strong> A great area of the Park is covered by forest natural habitats and mainly those of black Pine, Beech, Fir and Oak. Apart from these, at the 15 forest natural habitats of the National Park are also included forests and tufts of pines, chestnuts and near-river vegetation of sycamores, poplars and other. Also at the National Park there are 4 types of natural habitats that are composed by coppices. Finally, there are 5 types of meadow natural habitats (usually at higher altitudes), 2 types of natural habitats on rocky surface and 2 other types at rivers.<\/p>\n<p>Five types of natural habitats of the Northern Pindos National Park are characterized by high ecologic value and uniqueness in European level according to the evaluation criteria of 92\/43\/ECC \u201cOn the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora\u201d. That means they are natural habitats of high priority. This includes the black pine forests which cover a large area of the Park, the canyon forests with basswoods (Tilia sp.) and maples (Acer sp.), the forests with foetid junipers (Juniperus foetidissima), the sward formation of several species of Nardus on silicate surfaces and the forests with European alder (Alnus glutinosa) and other tree species.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Pindos presents on of the highest diversity indexes of mountainous Greece.
